Business description:
Founded in 1994, Invitel provided telephony, Internet and data services to residential and business customers in Hungary. Invitel was the incumbent operator in regional concession areas, where it had a stable and cash generative core telephony business and a growing Internet and data business. In the rest of Hungary, Invitel was an alternative telco with a national backbone, metropolitan networks, and significant growth potential following the liberalisation of the telecom market. GMT completed the acquisition of Invitel in May 2003, with AIG Emerging Europe Infrastructure Fund L.P. The business was sold in January 2007 to Hungarian Telephone & Cable Corp, with completion taking place in April 2007.
